I modified my Porta Pros many years ago and use HD25 velour pads on them. I don't have any of the problems you mention in the mid range. Bass can still be a little muddy. I very much prefer the tonality and bass of the CAL!, so I rarely use my Porta Pros at home. They are for use on the go only. UJmpUW.
